$5,000 Matching Grants Available for "Curbside Appeal"

Your neighborhood group, Hale, Page & Diamond Lake Community Association and its Commercial Development Planning Committee, created a Commercial Grant Program. The goal of the program is to rehabilitate, and improve the viability of the commercial areas in the neighborhood that provide services to our 12,000 residents.

The commercial grant program has a total of $100,000 to be distributed to neighborhood businesses. The HPDL Commercial Grant is intended for business and commercial property owners who are interested in doing visible exterior improvements to their business and / or are interested in installing security systems.

The HPDL commercial program will provide matching grants up to $5,000 for improvements to commercial properties in the HPDL eligible 1 commercial nodes. Businesses will be required to match each dollar of HPDL grant funds with one dollar from their own funds.

Collaborative projects are strongly encouraged and will be given high priority by the neighborhood association. In cases where there are four or more businesses in one node working together toward curbside appeal improvements, those businesses are encouraged to apply for up to $10,000 toward architectural design fees. This collaborative project grant is not a matching grant. All design fees, as approved by the neighborhood association, will be paid by HPDL.

HPDL has selected Project for Pride in Living (PPL) to administer our grant program. This organization has a range of experience in commercial development and housing programs.

ELIGBLE PROPERTIES

All business storefronts located in Hale, Page, and Diamond Lake boundaries are eligible for this grant (boundaries: 35W, HYW 62, Minnehaha Creek, and Cedar Avenue). Both owner-occupied and leased property are eligible. (In the latter case, either the property owner or the business owner may apply for the grant). Only one grant per street address will be given.

MATCHING REQUIREMENTS

Each HPDL grant must be matched in full by the business or property owner. An applicant must match $1 of their funds with each $1 given by HPDL. The applicants matching contributions are not limited to the eligible work listed below. HPDL grant funds can only be used for improvements listed below, but any expenditures on interior or exterior building improvement can count toward the applicants match. For example, a business owner can spend $1,000 on interior remodeling and count that expenditure as the match for $1,000 HPDL grant used to fund an exterior lighting.

Call the HPDL office (612-824-7707) for more information.
