Treasure Hunt committee member Margaret Craig points to the location of the rabbit. This path starts out running south from the path that is on the south side of the creek between Bloomington Avenue and the 14th St. footbridge.
Margaret points to the rabbit across from the "Y."

2009 Treasure Hunt Clues and Comments:
1. The early bird gets the worm.
Maybe this year it will be your turn.
With a little luck the rabbit could soon be found.
Go find part of a tree that is lying on the ground. |
You know you need to find a trunk or branch lying on the ground. |
2. Look up, down, across and behind,
Within 7 paces, the rabbit you'll find. |
It is within 7 paces of this piece of a tree. |
3. The others might wait for further news,
But you may not need any additional clues.
Alongside a path is the place to start.
Get going now and you'll have a head start. |
Although obviously difficult because there are many, it would be possible to find a piece lying on the ground, then look within 7 paces to find the rabbit early. |
4. There's lots of paths,
downed limbs, leaves, and trunks too.
It's dirt, you see, and the piece will be to the side of you. |
It is a dirt path and the piece is at the edge. |
5. You are wondering where that piece could be.
Take a path with a nearby sign that you can see,
On an avenue whose name starts with "B".
"Hello Hale Page Neighbor," friendly as can be. |
The HPDL "Welcome" sign is at Bloomingon and Minnehaha Parkway. The path is just a few paces away. |
6. If you took the right path, a bridge you will see,
and a fork's paces from the end about twenty and three.
Between that bridge and the sign we will now concentrate,
If you went where we said, excitement could be your fate. |
If you follow that path, you will come to the 14th Ave footbridge. To confirm that this is the right path to be on and therefore the correct area of interest (between Bloomington Ave and the 14th street footbridge on the south side of the creek), it comes to a fork that is 23 paces from the end of the bridge. |
7. A southerly incline will get you warmer.
Be patient here, because you need to go further.
As you walk, keep a sharp eye,
Because finding the rabbit will make you feel high! |
As you are on the above path that runs east-west, you need to go up an incline that runs south. That is the path where the rabbit is. This path is about 142 paces from the HPDL Welcome sign on Bloomington Ave. |
8. You need to go 72 paces, because that's how far.
If you did it right, it's close to where you are.
If you see a "Y" you're getting very hot,
Especially if a noticeable eye that "Y" has got. |
About 72 paces up this path, you will find a tree trunk along the side of the path. The rabbit is within 7 paces. From this tree trunk lying on the ground, you can easily see a "Y" formed by a standing tree. On the other side of this tree, a large "eye" is formed where a branch once was. The rabbit is very close to this Y. |
9. The "southerly incline" is a connecting trail,
It curves, too, but if you did not go there, you will surely fail.
Across from that "Y" is a lone, thin trunk standing upright,
and at its base the rabbit's been waiting many a night. |
Additional description to make sure you know to walk on that trail heading south, which soon begins to wind around. Across from the Y is a thin tree standing at the edge of the trail. The rabbit was at its base. |
We hope everyone enjoyed participating in the 2009 treasure hunt. Please join us again next year.
