Treasure Hunt committee member Margaret Craig stands near the rabbit location on the walking path between the Cedar Ave bridge and the footbrdige to the south (west side of Cedar Ave).
2011 Treasure Hunt Clues and Comments:
1. Our walking paths are many, and very serene.
Walking is fun, and you'll enjoy all the green.
Along one of these paths we hope you'll find
The Treasure Hunt rabbit, just slightly reclined. |
Self explanatory. |
2. "Be more precise," you'd like to demand.
Yes, it's time for the clues to expand.
At the right spot you just need to stand.
Now you can pluck it, using your hand. |
The rabbit is hanging, close to the walking path. |
3. "Tell us what path you actually mean!"
Alright, here's more for you to glean.
From the rabbit's location a bridge can be seen,
but you'll need eyesight that is pretty keen. |
The Cedar Ave bridge can be seen from the location. |
4. "There are lots of bridges," you'll probably say,
so we'll give you some help to go the right way.
There are two bridges the rabbit's between.
Off the end of one, an object with green. |
A green bird cage is off the end of the footbridge. |
5. The bridges are different, if you haven't surmised,
Number 1 just for pedestrians, number 2 includes motorized.
From 1 just start walking, and along the way,
Two trees are kissing, what a display! |
Number 1 is clearly a footbridge. Number 2 is the Cedar Ave bridge, which is for pedestrians and "includes" motorized vehicles. The kissing trees are pretty obvious along the path. |
6. From 1 there were a few paths to take.
Bearing left was the right choice to make.
Just to make sure your path is correct:
A wild mushroom on the right, tricky to detect. |
Take the left path at fork off the footbridge. |
7. "We need to know more, tell us please."
OK, find a tree leaning 15 degrees.
Until now there was no way to foresee,
You are starting to get warm, and will soon feel some glee. |
There is a prominent tree leaning 15 degrees along the path. |
8. Walk too far and number 2 is right there.
So big, so many cars it could give you a scare.
Along the way you may have seen,
Some flooded reeds, tall and green.
Between them and 2 you might just find,
Our friend, the rabbit, slightly entwined. |
This confirms it is the Cedar Ave bridge. Not far away the water creeps up to the grass, with reeds showing conspicously. |
9. From the footbridge 63 paces ahead,
Those kissing trees are probably wed.
142 more you should go,
Across from evergreens, just go slow.
Now reach in,
and you will win! |
Pretty specific here. |
We hope everyone enjoyed participating in the 2011 treasure hunt.
Special thanks to these HPDL businesses who donated prizes for this year's hunt!
